English George I baluster wine glass
The trumpet bowl with solid base, atop a baluster stem comprising a compressed knop over a collar over a large inverted baluster with a nicely formed ‘tear’ air bubble and then onto a plain stem section with a small inverted ‘tear’ at the base. A neatly made conical folded foot with rough pontil.
In perfectly original condition. Good vertical tooling marks to the bowl and overall a very nicely made glass. A slight ‘lean’ and a small ‘break away’ from the pontil at production.
Height: 6 ¾” Rim: 2 7/8” Ft: Just under 3”
An identical glass is in the Tibbenham Collection in Ipswich Museum & is shown in Bickerton illustration 200 on page 102. A beautiful glass with great poise.
