Pietro Labruzzi, (Tomasso) Born: 1739 Italy Died: 1805 Rome Labruzzi was a well known and respected Roman painter. He specialised in portraits of members of high society, his contemporaries and aristocrats. An example of his talent to capture a likeness of the human form is illustrated in his portrait of 1779 of well known artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi. The following drawings are presentation studies, possibly executed as a 'frame work' for a work in oil, or to give the client an idea of the composition. Ink and wash 273mm x 199mm Signed and dated 'P Labruzzi 1782' lower left Potiphar's wife, a bored Egyptian housewife ( she is nameless) is married to a wealthy man. She becomes infatuated with her husbands head slave, a Israelite named Joseph. She approaches him without shame and regularly requests that he should sleep with her.
