Brett Weir works primarily on aluminium and copper, drawing inspiration from his environment, memory and various musical influences. Weir has divided his time equally between Zurich, Switzerland and Gippsland, Australia for much of the past decade. In March, 2018 Weir presented Lunar Paintings, the inaugural solo exhibition at the newly redeveloped Gippsland Art Gallery, Sale.
Weir has an obsession with with surface, material and colour, creating paintings which are immediately arresting. The unique shifting surfaces of enamel on aluminium recall glittering celestial maps, organic compositions and sonic resonances.
In March 2019, Brett Weir will present a major solo exhibition at Michael Reid Sydney.
