Like their neighbours the Khamseh, the Qashqa’i are a confederation of tribes and are responsible for what many consider to be the most beautiful of all Persian tribal weavings.
The dyeing and wool quality in this rug are superb.
Pieces of this design are referred to as ‘Shekarlu’ the name associated with this particularly abstract field pattern representing a garden. It is dominated by stylised trees, angular palmettes, serrated leaves, hooked lozenges and a profusion of small geometric devices. An obviously overgrown but exceedingly charming garden.
The Shekarlu are also believed to have been an earlier Luri tribe who came under the umbrella of the Qashqa’i Confederacy.
