A mid 19th century red carnelian 9ct gold mounted opium pipe.The goldsmith has fashioned collars to cover the joins in the lapidary-work. Drillingand cutting material such as this is fraught with difficulty as the stone often shatterswhen heated by work. It's likely the stone cutting is from a German workshop andhas been assembled in the Netherlands.Mounts marked, Dutch circa 1870.
