Leah Emery embroiders vintage titillating scenes, quite literally interweaving and disrupting cliché stereotypes of gender and desire. In her latest series, Animal Queendom, Emery brings animals into the frame. These disinterested bystanders create a divide from the explicit content and offer a space for normalising discussions around intimacy.

Brett Weir: Lunar Paintings – Michael Reid Sydney

Brett Weir works primarily on aluminium and copper, drawing inspiration from his environment, memory and various musical influences. Weir has divided his time equally between Zurich, Switzerland and Gippsland, Australia for much of the past decade. In March, 2018 Weir presented Lunar Paintings, the inaugural solo exhibition at the newly redeveloped Gippsland Art Gallery, Sale.

Weir has an obsession with with surface, material and colour, creating paintings which are immediately arresting. The unique shifting surfaces of enamel on aluminium recall glittering celestial maps, organic compositions and sonic resonances.
