Here we have an exceptional natural Tianhuang shoushan stone hand carved brush washer dating to the Qing Dynasty.

Tianhuang shoushan is the most highly prized ornamental stone in China and is of exceptional rarity. The natural stone here, originally a boulder has been carved into a brush washer. Inclusions of the natural stone are present testifying to the fact this is genuine tianhuang. These types of inclusions are typical of this rare stone including whiter areas often called "turnip" inclusions and areas of darker coloration appearing in lines resembling cracks. These features attest to the genuine nature of this piece. They are not flaws in the stone but have occurred rather during the formation of this stone in the earths crust over millions of years.

There is variegated coloration, delicate on the body of the brush washer and a little more pronounced to the top of the Kylin which sits in a lively manner on one edge of the brush washer. The gem tianhuang stone is translucent catching the light.

It measures approximately 5 11/16" wide by 4 3/4" deep by 2 1/2" tall (145mm x 120mm x 64mm).

It is in good antique condition. This brush washer presents beautifully.

Seals carved in this gem material are rare, other pieces such as this brush washer more so. This stunning brush washer would be an ideal choice as an additional to any collection of rare Chinese art or as beautiful decorative piece in your home.
