Description

A exquisite water colour beachscape by late 19th Century English painter Thomas Sidney. The scene is titled “The Lion Rock. N.W. The Lizard Cornwall “ followed by his signature. A beautiful image showing Kynance Cove, with a traditional Cornish fishing smack beached, Herring Gulls fly above the breakers and seaweed is washed up on the shore. Superbly framed and matted under glass in its original framing treatment, in a lavish gilt and red gesso frame and gold matting.  Thomas Sidney was a prolific and talented 19th century painter in watercolour of landscapes, coastal and beach scenes. His work is frequently scene on the Market in the UK. The South Coast of England was his preferred location to paint, but I have seen examples of his work from the North-East of England around the Country Durham Coast. Lion Rock at Kynance Cove on the Lizard Peninsular in Cornwall is an exceptionally breath taking part of England, anyone lucky enough to have been there will know what u mean. The image measures 250 x 350 mm and the frame measures 460 x 570 mm. Circa 1900.
