Description

An astonishing hand made platinum and solid gold fine jabot pin set with large hand cut rare fancy colored diamonds, fine white diamonds and stunning Ceylon sapphires. This custom made piece is exceptional quality and dates to the 1930s. Jabot or clique pins were made famous by Cartier. Essentially they are made of two components each with gem set or diamond set ends which click together with the pin between them. This arrangement makes these brooches look like there are two floating diamond set sections when they are worn as the pin which secures the ornament is hidden behind fabric. They are called jabot pins as in the mid 17th century this style of pin was used to secure long lace ruffles worn from below the neck and extending down the decolletage. Jabot pins were high fashion in the art deco period. Women wore these amazing jewels on their neckline, in their hair, on hats, on a collar or as an amazing jewel on an evening dress. They are a versatile, rare and gorgeous item to own. This example is truly exceptional. It is set with two very large fancy colored diamonds which have been hand cut each being surrounded by a luxurious geometric arrangement of vivid blue precious sapphires and fine white diamonds which is quintessentially art deco. The pin itself clicks together and has a latch which pushes down over the pin securing it tightly. It measures 2 3/8" long when the two ends are together and is 1 3/16' wide (60mm x 30mm). Whilst the brooch itself is unmarked it has been professionally tested. The white metal section is solid platinum the back of this section has a solid 22K gold border to the reverse. The pin itself is solid 18K gold for strength, durability and to ensure secure wear. The exceptional gems and diamonds which have been individually hand set in this opulent high art deco pin are as follows: • A hexagonal hand cut fancy light pink brown diamond measuring 7.49mm x 7.12mm x 4.24mm and weighing approximately 1.85 carats VS clarity • A fancy square step cut fine champagne diamond measuring 6.00mm x 6.11mm x 4.15mm VS clarity and weighing 1.36 carats • 2 rectangle step cut F VS diamonds measuring 4.46mm x 3.38mm x 2.15mm 0.30 carats and 4.38mm x 3.35mm x 2.25mm 0.31 carats
• 25 1.9mm 3.5 point VS F old cut diamonds
• 70 1.38mm VS F old cut diamonds each 1.5 points
• 2 hand cut Ceylon blue step square cut natural sapphires measuring respectively 3.75mm x 3.75mm x 2.89mm 0.52 carats and 3.79mm x 4.00mm x 4.39mm 0.85 carats
This makes the total fine Ceylon blue sapphire weight is 1.37 carats
The total diamond weight is 5.755 carats.
Altogether the total sapphire and diamond weight is 7.125 carats. The condition is excellent. This piece is exceedingly rare and is of museum quality. This is the kind of jewel one sees in a textbook of Art Deco high jewelry. This piece has been examined by a professional gemologist, diamond grader and specialist antique jewelry appraiser. Included is the Certificate of Appraisal.
