Spanish colonial silver mounted carved coconut-shell coco chocolatero. Engraved “dogs tooth” silver rim and cast knuckled claw feet with the initials “A W R” inscribed to the lozenge shaped terminals. The design of carving is idiosyncratic of chocolate cups produced in Mexico throughout the 17th and 18th centuries.
Shell has an old crack.
An example with nearly exactly the same carving is on display at the LACMA.
