Hilda Rix Nicholas visited Morocco and her paintings and drawings, many created en plein air in the soko (marketplace), capture the bright colour, light and movement she experienced. At a time when orientalist painting was popular, Hilda's work has a connection with the people and the place and reveal her eye for detail in her depictions of costume in particular.
