An exceptional Georgian rose cut Diamond Ring is solid 18K yellow gold and fine silver of museum quality. This
beautiful ring is designed as a central panel of foil backed large
double rose cut diamonds surrounded entirely by a single rose cut
diamond border. The rose cut diamonds glitter gracefully at every angle
as they catch the light. Each lovely diamond is set in fine
sterling silver as was always the case in this period. Platinum had not
been used for jewelry making yet and white gold was not invented. The
rest of the ring is solid 18K yellow gold. The shank of the ring is quite baroque and ornate in style with scroll like motifs and piercings. This
lovely hand made 18th Century ring is in excellent condition. It is
uncommon to find 18th century jewelry in perfect condition like this
ring. Acquired from a high end estate in Napoli Italy, it is most likely that this ring was originally made in Switzerland. The top of the ring measures 1 1/16" long and is 5/8" wide (27mm x 16mm). It's a large luxurious ring. In total it weighs 8.99 grams. The hand cut fine rose cut diamonds set in this ring are as follows:
* One rose cut diamond approximately 4.9mm wide by 3.5mm deep weighing approximately 0.75 carats
* One rose cut diamond approximately 4.7mm wide by 2.5mm deep weighing approximately 0.50 carats
* One rose cut diamond approximately 4.7mm wide by 2.7mm deep weighing approximately 0.45 carats
* 18 2.2mm by 1.5mm rose cut diamonds weighing approximately 6 points each
* 50 rose cut diamonds measuring approximately 1.8mm wide by 1.1mm deep each weighing approximately 2.5 points. This makes the total Carat Weight of Diamonds in the ring 4.03 carats. The underside of the ring is exquisitely decorated which was often the case for the most exclusive jewelry of the time. Currently this ring is a size 5 USA sizing approximately. An
astonishing piece, this ring could easily be placed on display at the
Victoria and Albert Museum where it would fit in perfectly with the
exquisitely rare jewelry on display. I can only imagine the places it's been and how beautiful it looked at night under candle light at the time.... An
appraisal shall accompany this item. This appraisal has been made by a
professional Gemologist and accredited Jewelry Appraiser who is a
