A beautifully carved phoenix shaped rhyton in pale celadon jade dating to the Ming dynasty. The
pale celadon nephrite is highly translucent with natural inclusions and
coloration to the gem material that the artist has expertly used to
accentuate details such as the tail, plumage and feet of the phoenix.
It's beautifully carved with some archaistic reference in the details on
the tail forming the mouth of the vessel. This stunning 14th to
15th century jade cup measures approximately 6 3/8" long by 1 5/16"
deep by 3 1/8" tall (162mm x 33mm x 80mm). It is in lovely
condition and is intact and original to the period. There are natural
color variations to the jade as shown in the photographs. An
exceptionally rare piece from the Ming dynasty, these vessels very
occasionally come up for auction at renown auction houses with few in
Museum Collections. It would make a wonderful acquisition to any collection of the finest Chinese antiques. We ship securely worldwide. The photos form part of the description.
