The excitement, quality and rarity of this heirloom art deco bracelet is beyond measure. Entirely
handmade the sapphire and diamond bangle is so cleverly designed that
it stretches seamlessly over the wrist without the need for any clasp. The
sides of the bracelet are each immaculately decorated with exquisite
hand engraved floriate details. These pretty decorations are further
enhanced by hand done milgrain finish. This detail is like an almost
microscopic sized granulation which is hand applied around the settings.
The alternating links of diamonds and sapphires sparkly and
glitter in with the most luxurious color contrast. Each respectively set
in platinum then 18K solid yellow gold. The sapphires themselves
are genuine unheated Kashmir sapphires in stunning rich blue. Kashmir
sapphires are almost the stuff of legend today due to their extreme
rarity and quality. Today, so many sapphires are described as Kashmir
referring only to the color but are not actually true Kashmir sapphires.
But these amazing velvety cornflower blue natural untreated gems are
genuine Kashmir sapphires from the legendary mine high in the Himalayas.
The mine site is located above 4,000 metres and is very inaccessable.
Due to the severe conditions, mining is only possible for a few weeks
each year. Discovered in the 1880s, the mine produced some extremely
large and fine stones in the first few years even though the annual
production of the mine was very small. The site has only been mined
intermittently since and has seen long periods when it has remained
closed, guarded year 'round by armed police. It is commonly stated that
the mines have been closed or mined out since the 1890s, an inaccuracy
that appears even in some well known texts. In fact, this is not
correct. By far the largest production (in total carats) from the mines
occurred in the 1920s and 1930s, much greater than that of the
nineteenth century. Mining has been very sporadic since the late 1940s.
In a practical sense, this means that true Kashmir sapphires are only
really seen in some antique and vintage jewels, with the rare exception
when a contemporary piece is made using a sapphire removed from an older
jewel. Each gorgeous sapphire is channel set in yellow gold and
square step cut. They each measure 2.5mm by 2.5mm on average with seven
in each alternating gold segment of this magical bracelet. In total
there are 35 of these rare gems. The total carat weight just of Kashmir sapphire is 4.20 carats. In
between each opulent Kashmir sapphire section is a section of hand
crafted platinum set with hand cut old European cut diamonds which are
grain set. Each diamond measures 2.5mm in diameter on average. There are
a total of 35 of these exquisite sparkly untreated diamonds each
weighing 9 points. These sparkly eye clean white diamonds are SI clarity
H/I color. The total diamond weight is 3.15 carats. Each
precious Kashmir sapphire and hand cut fine white diamond has been set
by hand by a master gem setter and master diamond setter respectively. The bracelet measures 3.1mm wide across the diamond set sections and 2.9mm wide across the astonishing sapphire set sections. It
measures 6 5/16" in internal circumference unstretched. Stretched it
extends to 7 11/16" approximately to allow it to be taken on and off
over the hand. As stated this bracelet has no clasp. The sides of
the bracelet have pierced galleries for maximum sparkle....every detail
has been carefully planned, executed and finished with a standard of
workmanship and skill you just do not see today or for that matter in
much jewelry from the Art Deco era. Of course, it is entirely handmade. It
is in wonderful condition and is ready to wear. All the fine diamonds
and gems are contemporaneous to the bangle with no repairs of any kind.
