A stunning hand carved 18th century Chinese white nephrite jade openwork pendant. This
antique Chinese amulet has reticulated carving across the whole
surface of the pendant . Front and Back there are there are the Chinese
characters Fu (Prosperity) and Shou (Longevity) and the sides are
decorated with intricate carvings of peaches (longevity) and bats
(prosperity) these alternating each twice on the circumference of the
pendant. The words for Fu and Shou are carved in two layers this feat of
workmanship is seemingly impossible when you look at the carving
closely. The nephrite is beautifully white across the whole
carving with few inclusions and wonderfully translucent. White nephrite
was reserved for aristocracy being the rarest color of nephrite jade.
The more consistent the color and translucent the more valuable the
stone. It measures approximately 2 1/8" in diameter by 11/16" deep (54mm x 17mm) weighing 42 grams. There are four holes each at 90 degrees to each other for suspension. This
exceptional jade pendant is in lovely condition original to when it was
made hundreds of years ago. It would make a stunning gift for a special
occasion such as a wedding or engagement especially with the strength
