These finer than fine circa 1850s earrings are most likely French. Striking
and opulent, they are at the same time elegant, feminine and refined.
Not at all overdone or gaudy, unlike so many pieces from the period.
They hang perfectly and catch the light from all angles. They do feel
wonderful on. It is these qualities that reveal a mastery of design. The
workmanship is also of the highest order. The clarity, dimensionality
and depth of color seen in the rich blue enameling is extremely fine. The
material themselves... the 34 entirely natural pearls are the finest
silver white, perfectly matched and have rich unblemished nacre. The
pearls remain in beautiful condition. The diamonds are very fine whites
and perfectly cut. There are two old European cut diamonds, each 10
points. The accent stones are double rose cut. The total diamond weight
is 0.71 ct. Being fine, French and antique they are solid 18 karat gold, which the French call 750 of course. Together the pair weigh 13.05 grams. The drops measure 2" by 11/16" (50mm x 17mm) and are a perfect length. These
earrings are almost 200 years old and are in amazing condition. As you
might expect for pieces from this era there is some patina to the enamel
on the top of the earrings. Actually this has occurred over hundreds of
years of putting on and taking off the earrings! They are absolutely
original and authentic. They are not modern reproductions. They remain
just as they were made and have not been tampered with or altered in any
way. These superb earrings been examined by a professional
gemologist and diamond grader, a specialist in antique jewelry
appraisal. Each piece of jewelry is delivered with its Certificate of
Authenticity.
