An exceptional solid 18K yellow gold hand made high Victorian Swiss Miniature landscape pin depicting the Chateau de Chillon. Dating to the 1850s this mint condition brooch is a rare example of fine Swiss jewelry at the time. Inside a highly ornate hand made solid 18K yellow gold frame is set a miniature of exceptional beauty and detail which has been painted with fine enamels. To do this involves countless firings as each new layer of enamel is applied. It is almost impossible to see the brushstrokes in the miniature as it is so fine. This pin weighs 11.73 grams. It measures 1 11/16" long and is 1 1/2" wide (43mm x 38mm). This astonishing little work of art is in exceptional condition for it's 165+ years of age. When viewed at magnification with a jewelers eyeglass there are two faint marks to the enamel. A rare piece to find on the market today this lovely pin would make an wonderful addition to any fine antique jewelry or miniature collection. An appraisal shall accompany this item.
