Description
Suzani were traditionally embroidered by the women of the bride’s family. The bride herself would over several years have completed a ‘suite’ of embroideries. Household usage was as covers for bedding or furniture and curtains to annexe the sleeping quarters from the living spaces. They also served a ceremonial role as a marriage textile. The design and colours of this very decorative example are typical of more recent suzani from Samarkand.
