Early 18th Century longcase clock, the case decorated with black and gilt Chinoiserie lacquer. The movement by John Smorthwaite of Colchester. His is recorded in Ballie as 'early 18th Century...a lantern clock and a longcase clock'. Loomes lists him as being in Westmorland and later Colchester; born 1706, dying 1739.
The movement has been cleaned and overhauled by a Professional Member of the British Horological Association.
