A teenage interest in all things ancient, especially early prints motivated Peter Lane to open the Adelaide gallery in 1976 after two years trading in London. The ambitious objective was to offer to Australians some artefacts or objects from all known ancient cultures.

In 1981 the Gallery moved to Sydney and enjoyed 26 years of successful trading before relocating to Hobart in 2007.

The gallery has sold to museums and private collections in Australia and overseas.
